Pin-Up Stationery Ad (Part 1)

Ahhh...
Al Wiseman and beautiful women. Need I say more?
Oh, I do?
Well, I was kinda hoping to get out of here early today, but okay...
This ad for "Pin-Up Stationery" appeared on the back cover of many issues of Charley Jones' Laugh Book Magazine (the scan below was taken from the March, 1953 issue). I'm thinking these stationery pages were self-published by the ever-enterprising Al, but who knows?
Nice, huh?I'll make you folks some enlarged jpegs of the smaller drawings for Tuesday's post. How's that for a plan?
Now, as long as we're all in agreement, let's call it a day and be done with it...

Bill, I am just guessing, but I put those "Pin Up"girls
at circa 1948-9.
I was born in Watsonville then, so the location is right.
Real New York syle ladies.
Curvy and classy.

Jim,
That sounds about right for the approximate year these were originally done.
I thought Watsonville was a place your family lived. I know I've got that name written in my notes somewhere...
I love the copy on the ads - I think more than just the GI's letters would be "perking up" nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Who knew Wiseman was so good as a "good girl" artist?
Al's friend, George Crenshaw, told me that he hired Al for a pre-Dennis project specifically because he was known for drawing beautiful women.
But I guess Dennis put a stop to most of Al's pin-up girls for a while...
